Where does the earthquake data come from?

All earthquake data is sourced live from the official GeoNet API and updated automatically.

How often is the map updated?

The map refreshes automatically every few seconds, depending on server load and API availability.

Deleted events are earthquakes that GeoNet has revoked after review. QuakeHub displays them for transparency.

Deep events are earthquakes occurring at depths greater than 555 km. These are rare in New Zealand and may indicate false readings.
